The Thunder Valley Bracket Challenge: May 27-30 at Bristol Dragway!

Bristol, TN: As announced earlier this month, the inaugural Thunder Valley Bracket Challenge will feature over $490,000 in weekend prize distribution at the beautiful Bristol Dragway on Memorial Day Weekend, 2010. The event, which has been developed by reputable sportsman competitors Jeff Strickland, Dave Connolly, and Don Strickland, will feature four days of big dollar bracket competition with excellent payback throughout the purse and a reasonable entry fee.
The main adjustment in race structure since the original announcement is in entry fee: as promoters are now separating Saturday’s Main Event entry fee from the remainder of the weekend. The Thursday $10,000-to-win warm-up race presented by StickerPunk.com, and both Friday & Sunday’s $25,000-to-win events can be entered for the combined price of only $649. These events feature just one single round of buy backs (no buybacks if over 256 entries), and unprecedented payback for races in this part of the country. In the $25,000-to-win events, runner-ups receive $7500. Semi-finalists earn $3,000, and even quarterfinalists take home a smooth $1,000. $200 round money starts with third round winners, unless the event doesn’t have 150 entries (then round money starts with fourth round winners). The remainder of the purse is 100% guaranteed!
Saturday’s main event will feature a separate entry fee, more designed for the high-roller racers seeking one of the largest bracket paydays of the season. Saturday’s main event purse is based on participation, and will pay a whopping $150,000-to-win with 300 entrants. The winners purse varies with participation, as shown on the flyer, with a minimum of $50,000-to-win guaranteed by race promoters. The purse from runner-up down is set and guaranteed regardless of car count: with the runner-up earning $25,000, semi’s taking $7500 each, and $3,000 going to the quarterfinalists. In Saturday’s main event, $500 round money will start with third round (4th round winners if under 150 cars). Entry for the Saturday Main Event is $1,000, with a $400 buy back available first round only.
“Our goal coming in was to make the Thunder Valley Bracket Challenge one of the highest paying events in the country,” explained co-promoter Jeff Strickland. “In doing so, we developed an event that catered to the ‘elite’ racers, the big money guys. By offering the weekend package separate from the main event, I think that puts three huge pay days and a really well structured race within the reach of the average competitor. Sure $649 is a fair amount of money to anyone, but with the way the purse is structured, you don’t have to win a huge number of rounds to get that investment back; and the upside is huge: there’s a lot of money to be won. Dave, Dad, and myself are all racers. We’ve all been to a number of events, and we’ve given a lot of thought to making this race as enjoyable and beneficial for the racers as possible. Our goal was to create a ‘racers race,’ and I feel like we’ve done that.”
In addition to the four daily featured events, the Thunder Valley Bracket Challenge will also host a pair of special shootout events: the American Race Cars/Moser Engineering Dragster Shootout, and the Sunset Racecraft/Dart Machinery Engine Shootout. View flyer for details and contact race promoters to reserve an entry.
Saturday night will feature the event’s “Saturday Night Time to Get Right” racers party, a fun-filled after hours activity provided by event promoters. The race will host a variety of giveaways, bad beat awards, and various prizes provided by event sponsors including Dart, American Race Cars, Moser Engineering, Auto Meter, CBI Performance Warehouse, TCI Transmissions, Sunset Racecraft, Wilkerson Racing Engines, Quickfuel Technologies, SS Race Decals, StickerPunk.com, FTI Transmissions and Converters, Moroso, ThisIsBracketRacing.com, Hughes Converters, Abruzzi Transmissions and Converters, JEGS, K&N, Hoosier Racing Tire, Sparco, Huntsville Engine & Performance, VP Racing Fuels, and Penske Racing Shocks.
Live Timing, Audio and video will be provided by DragRaceResults.com, and the event will feature Speed Channel’s Brian Olson as a guest announcer.
